Progressive overclocker refused to believe that the produced in 55 nm process video RV670 can overclock only to 862 MHz, and updating the BIOS removed this restriction. Now remained to develop a volt mod and to change the cooling system to something more efficient. In XtremeSystems forum such experiments appeared . User increased the video chip voltage ( Radeon HD 3870 ) to 1.5 V with the help of method described here (hardware modification), and applied a water cooling. The graphics card Radeon HD 3870 was overclocked to 1008/2670 MHz.  Note that the default frequency of Radeon HD 3870 is equal to 775/2250 MHz. Without raising the core voltage , and change of the cooling system the card overclock to frequencies close to 900 MHz.
