In the next five years, Toyota will spend one billion dollars to create artificial intelligence, driving ability. Last Friday, the automaker announced the opening of a research center Toyota Research Institute, which will be headed by an expert in the field of robotics professor Praet Gill (Gill Pratt).
The main objective of the program will be to increase traffic safety and reduce the number of road accidents each year taking away 1.25 million lives. In addition, the center will work on technologies, making driving simpler for people with disabilities and elderly.
Toyota has already demonstrated a concept based on the Lexus GS with a system of Highway Teammate, allowing the vehicle to travel on the highway without a driver. Highway Teammate can travel or move out to the highway, lane change and keep a safe distance from other road users.
