One of the problems of modern smartphones - their fragility. If the unit falls onto a hard surface, there is a chance to break the screen, or damage to other parts of the smartphone. Even protective covers do not always save a broken screen or dents on the body. Earlier this year, three companies - Apple, Amazon and Honda - submitted safety cushion for smartphones. But the latest technology, patented by Apple, offers a more practical approach.
The document, published today by the Office of Patent and Trademark Office (United States Patent and Trademark Office, PTO) describes a system that not only protects iPhone in the fall on a hard surface, but also can increase his chances of survival if dropped in water. The system uses the sensors of the smartphone (accelerometer, camera, gyroscope, etc.) to determine whether an uncontrolled fall of the device, and then runs the shock absorbers, which are put forward from its case.
These shocks come from the four corners of the iPhone and expanded in several directions, thus ensuring the security of each of the unit. Once the shock absorbers are used, they can be replaced.
