VideoLAN project developed a cross-platform media player VLC.It was previously available for Windows, OS X, Linux, BSD, Solaris, OS / 2, BeOS / Haiku, ReactOS, and Android, now enthusiasts have released version for Chrome OS.
The main problem was porting - because VLC is written in C and C ++, and for the Chrome OS had to be rewritten in JavaScript. It was based version for Android.
Importantly, the resulting version of the player has nearly the same functionality as for the other systems. It supports playback of audio and video files in all formats, has support for playlists and music library, as well as stimming streaming data from the network. In addition, hardware acceleration is supported during playback and decoding data from files.
The application itself is tested Chromebook Pixel and HP Chromebook. So far, there may be some mistakes, but in general, the application works normally. It is important to note that the license for the VLC Chrome OS is the same as in other versions - a free open-source code.
