The video card radeon HD 3870 are equipped with GDDR-4 memory , but two-chip product radeon HD 3870 X2 is satisfied with GDDR- 3 memory . AMD prepares the version radeon HD 3870 X2 with GDDR-4 memory , which is based on faster revision RV670 chip and more compact revision PLX bridge, which supports PCI express 2.0. This combination allow to decrease the amounts of printed-circuit board.
AMD Partners try to save on memory with the production Of radeon HD 3870, after equipping this video card with GDDR- 3 microcircuits . PowerColor released the version radeon HD 3870 with cooler zEROtherm but here with only 512 mb GDDR-4 memory and 800/2340 MHz frequencies . Today in Chinese stores appeared the radeon HD 3870 with GDDR- 3 memory , which is equipped with the same cooler , but operates at frequencies 777/1800 MHz.  Memory capacity remained (512 mb.), simply the type was changed to GDDR- 3 instead of GDDR-4.  This Video card is equipped with GDDR- 3 microcircuits from samsung production with access time 1.0 ns. Theoretically, this memory is capable to work at 2.0 GHz DDR frequency.  Here is the power element :  PowerColor simply use the modified design of radeon HD 3850 for the production of video card radeon HD 3870 with 512 mb GDDR- 3 memory .
