This week at the home event, Samsung Foundry Forum South Korean chip maker, reported on the development of two additional technical processes within the 14- and 10-nm semiconductor manufacturing. This process technologies 14LPU and 10LPU. SDK for designing chips using technical processes 14LPU and 10LPU will be available in about six months - in the second quarter 2017. Accordingly, the digital projects of the first solutions for manufacturing data will be ready by the end of 2017, while in the devices they appear around the end of 2018 or the first half of 2019.
14LPU Process technology refers to the fourth generation 14-nm process technology. Compared to the 14-nm process technology third generation (14LPC) new process provides improved chip performance without increasing power consumption. On this basis, 14LPU process technology aims to produce chips for increased workloads, including "heavy" server load.
10LPU Process technology is the third generation 10-nm process technology company. Compared with the technical processes and 10LPE 10LPP new development will help to reduce the chip area without affecting the performance and consumption. Since the further reduction process technology scale is difficult and limited lithography scanners, process technology 10LPU may be the best alternative to competing offerings. This process technology is suitable for the production of a wide range of chips - from mobile solutions to computer and household.
Finally, Samsung showed a silicon wafer with a 7-nm chips experienced to create that of EUV-lithography (superhard UV range) . In other words, it looks forward to a long technical process operation 10LPU, but also spend time and energy on the preparation of the next step.
