Associates encountered a specific problem using the Video card geForce 9800 GX2 and the motherboard asus striker II Formula on base of chipset nForce 780i SLI . the video make contact with (nForce 200 chip ) . This motherboard reached the threshold temperature of nForce 200 chip and south bridge temp was equal to 90 degree Celsius, then the power was disconnected .

The chip nForce 200 and south bridge are located between two upper slots PCI express x16, and the GeForce 9800 GX2 simply make contact with the radiator of nForce 200 chip . This causes dangerous overheating.

It was possible to solve this problem with the installation of supplemental fan, which blew out the south bridge region . Experiments with other motherboards proved that similar arrangement of nForce 200 chip can cause problems with the operational stability in case of video card geForce 9800 GX2.

hi i am having mcp heat issue right now its at 108c just idle. i just found out this was bad so i will try to install better passive or a fan, but not much room for fan with 2 8800gtx. im kinda stuck...

btw - sorry i have a xfx 780i w/q6600quad 2x8800gtx xfi fatality 4gb crucial ram and ocz 1010 psu in a cosmos case, (sports model with 200ml side fan and mesh casing) also extra zalman arm mounted 120ml pointed at north bridge and part of south...i guess i should mention i replaced my gtx stock heatsinks with zalman vf1000 led vga coller w/zalman zm-rhs88 ram heatsinks...1 more thing i did was change my northbridge stock heatsink with a thermaltake extreme spirit 2 cooler soooo therefore, nothing was on my southbridge so i just put generic passive on which i figured was basically what was on there, but apparently is not doing the job. I had to change my northbridge cooler because stock one was blowing on my gtx and making it idle at low 80s, and 105 under load, now idle at low 50s and high 60s under load. sorry for rambling if you know of a good fan for southbridge i would like to get it keeping in mind almost nothing fits in there due to the gtx overlap of the mcp. thank you, *ken*
