Since 3 ways and Quad Sli became possible with new 9800 GX2 and 9800 GTX we decided to make a small review about the gaming performance using those cards.
The test configuration included the processor intel core 2 Quad QX9650 (4,4 GHz), Motherboard EVGA 780i SLI , 2 X 2 GB memory OCZ reaper X PC6400 DDR-2 4- 4- 3-12 , HDD western digital raptor (150 GB, 10000 rp/min, SATA). Cooling system : water-block swiftech apogee GTX block (CPU) and MCP655- B pump. Finally , as a power unit we have here zalman 1000 W. All tests were executed under 64- bit Windows vista home premium using forceware drivers 174.53 and 174.40.
In 3DMark06 test there was a noticeable effect with passage from one card to two 9800 GTX . With resolution 1920 x 1200 pixels the gain composed approximately 80%.
In crysis game , the results rose only after the installation of both second and third card, but in this case gain from 3- way SLI was less noticeable . Tests in other games demonstrated similar result.
NVIDIA already optimized drivers for SLI configuration with two adapters, but here they forget about the third card . So the gain from the installation of third card is not so great .
The current reasonable selection is a motherboard on base of chipset 780i and pairs 9800 GTX. Related Products :
