According to the early expectations of experts from the analytical company IC Insights, in 2017 the global semiconductor market should have increased by 5%. However, since the second half of 2016, the memory and NAND flash chips that have become more expensive have made positive adjustments to market expectations. AMD Ryzen processors, by the way, also promise to increase the demand for DRAM memory and its cost, which has not yet been reflected in the analysis of the situation.
Last year, thanks to the growth of average prices for memory, the final result also exceeded the forecast, but only by 1%. Higher growth was prevented by low prices for memory during the first half of 2016. But in 2017, memory manufacturers will rake in revenue with soviet tools. It is expected that the average selling price for DRAM memory will increase by 39%, and the average selling price of NAND will grow by 25%. Let's add, in April 2016 the average selling price of DRAM (obviously, 4-Gbit DDR4) was $ 2.41. In January 2017, the price of one chip increased to $ 3.60 (+ 49%). This led to an increased demand for memory for the PC in the absence of the necessary volumes of production.
In 2017, manufacturers will not rush to increase the production of DRAM and NAND. So, the market is ready to increase memory consumption in terms of capacity by 30%, while manufacturers will increase this figure only by 20%. The deficit will continue to persist, which will bring companies in 2017 a total of $ 57.3 billion.
