AMD's quarterly report will not be the only event of May that will allow us to fill out the newsline with information about this company. Nevertheless, today we are discussing exactly the statements of AMD executives at the questions and answers session, which followed the announcement of the results of the quarter. Of course, most of the analysts' questions were devoted to processors with Zen architecture and graphics solutions Vega generation, so there will be a lot of news on these topics today.
As we noted in the previous article, AMD today once again confirmed its intention to present the first graphics solutions Vega until the end of the current quarter. The word "first" should alert the tenacious mind of the reader, but one should not be deceived. As Lisa Su explains, this year AMD will gradually extend the Vega architecture to gaming, professional graphics solutions, as well as to the segment of compute accelerators. "Movements down the price" is not expected: Vega architecture carriers will occupy the most expensive in the hierarchy of AMD products price segment, located above the Radeon RX 5xx video cards. It is the last until the end of this year will represent the interests of the company in mass price segments.
But the "horizontal expansion" Vega promises to be quite rapid: to extend the range of adjacent functional segments, AMD allocates "a couple of months." According to Lisa Su, Vega's debut will "substantially increase competition" in those segments where the carriers of this architecture will be represented. The average price for the implementation of graphic solutions will also increase - as can be judged from the report for the first quarter, the announcement of Ryzen helped the company improve its profitability and increase revenue. Something similar is expected and after the debut of Vega.
