Forging cheap processors is unprofitable, so as soon as AMD Ryzen 7 stepped into the price range "above average", there were wishing to make money on their popularity and the desire of consumers to save. Already two people, at least, ran into counterfeit Ryzen 7 1700 processors, which were distributed by one large American online store. Naturally, this was done not maliciously, but by accident - especially since this resource represents a platform for electronic commerce to all comers,
and counterfeit sometimes seeps through these channels.
The boxed version of the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 turned out to be an Intel Celeron processor LGA 775 version with a frequency of 2.9 GHz, and the imitation of the marking was applied to the lid by means of a transparent film, which the customers then easily separated. The processor box did not cause suspicion, but the plastic case of the processor was casually stitched with silicone sealant, and when the box was opened, a piece of cardboard remained on it.
The design of the LGA 775 means that there are contact pads on the processor case, not pins. The "mating part" of socket AM4 also does not contain pins, therefore it is possible to bring these foreign objects to full contact only with the use of destructive force.
The second copy of the counterfeit Ryzen 7 was made in a similar recipe, as a cooler was attached a worn radiator for the Intel processor LGA 775 with traces of the thermal interface on the sole. Fortunately, both buyers not only received the real processors under warranty from the store, but also got gift cards as compensation.
