Before the first official reviews of the game video card Radeon RX Vega 64 we are separated by more than a week, although unofficial data on the speed of the novelty is already available. Nevertheless, the well-known overclocker Buildzoid has so far been able to get only the professional accelerator Radeon Vega Frontier Edition, subjecting it to a test with liquid nitrogen when trying to overclock. The experiment will continue after the appearance of a suitable driver and replenishment of liquid
nitrogen reserves, but for now it is necessary to be satisfied with the first impressions.
Good news can be attributed to the good tolerability of the graphics processor Vega 10 negative temperatures. Up to a mark of minus 185 degrees Celsius there were no problems, and then the author did not advance, and even to the boiling point of liquid nitrogen is already within reach. There is some layout inconvenience - the graphics processor is placed close to the back panel, and therefore when using liquid nitrogen, the outlets are quickly covered with frost. The power elements are covered
with frost when the video card is running without load, but in resource-intensive tests the frost begins to melt.
The features of abutting HBM2 memory chips to the base of the tank with liquid nitrogen are not fully understood. Perhaps in a particular experiment, the contact was loose, and therefore the memory could not be overclocked to more than 1100 MHz.
At a nominal voltage of 1.2 V, the graphics processor was able to overclock to 1800 MHz. Formally, the 2000 MHz boundary was also overcome, but the performance measurements at this frequency showed that the performance fell below the mode using nominal frequencies. But the energy consumption when using liquid nitrogen is reduced by 100 W at once. The author of the experiment is convinced that with increased voltage, liquid nitrogen will allow to stably overclock over 2000 MHz "in the
core". Related Products :
