On the pages of Reddit was published a slide from the presentation to the report of AMD representatives at the recently held conference HotChips. In this illustration, the company directly compares the existing layout of the EPYC processors with four 213-square-meter crystals each and a hypothetical monolithic version of EPYC that will never be released in the current generation of AMD server solutions.
From the abstract statements of the technical director "about 800 sq. M" AMD employees are moving more precise geometry. In their opinion, a hypothetical monolithic processor would have an area of about 777 sq. Mm, and in production a processor of four crystals would cost 41% less. Moreover, the modular layout allows for more flexible product range formation, and the yield level of suitable crystals is much higher. According to the developers, as the size of the crystal increases,
