Associate tried to compare yesterday the video card GTX 280 with R700 AMD card. The test configuration included the processor intel core 2 Extreme QX9650 (3 GHz, 12 MB. L2), which works at 4 GHz frequency , motherboard ASUS P5E3 premium (Intel x48 express), 2 GB memory corsair dominator DDR3-1800 MHz.
The cards used are : force3D radeon HD 4870 512MB (750/900 MHz), Sapphire radeon HD 4870 512MB (750/900 MHz) and XFX geForce GTX 280 1GB (670/1458/1250 MHz). The XFX Geforce GTX 280 1GB XXX frequencies were increased in comparison with reference cards.
It is known that the 3d- card ATI radeon HD 4870 X2 is compared on the performance to two ATI radeon HD 4870 512MB in crossfire regime , so testers used the results of them as a radeon HD 4870 X2. Let us recall the basic characteristics of the compared products:

Into the test list entered many applications and games : Futuremark 3DMark vantage, Enemy territory: Quake wars, Crysis, World in conflict and Unreal tournament 3. Test showed that even XFX XXX card, which works at high frequencies is not a serious competitor to the Radeon HD 4870 X2.
Moreover According to our HD 4870X2 review the Dual chip card in average is 10 % faster than the HD 4870 in crossfire regime due to the new AMD optimization and Some HD 4870 x2 card will come already with 2Gb memory witch is already twice higher than the memory capacity of the tested HD 4870 cards in crossfire regime (2 x 512 MB) : This will be useful for high resolution and will increase also the frame rate in heavy graphic regimes .
