NVIDIA GeForce 7800GTX On two leading processor platforms: Everything began from the  question: "by how much will scale the video card performace using high end processor ?" Regular answer was is just as simple as the question: "depond on cpu and video card used?" so to get better answer this review will help .we will opposite the new x1900xt radeon card to the 7800gtx card using 2 high end cpu from intel and amd. Hardware and software Test Configuration CPU Mainboard Memory Athlon 64 X2 5000+ ASUS M2n32-  Deluxe (Bios version 0603) Corsair Cm2x1024-6400 (5-5-5-12) Core 2 duo X6800 Intel D975XBX (Bios version 1334) Corsair Cm2x1024-6400 (5-5-5-12) Video card - GeForce 7800GTX 256 mb (Gigabyte), ATI Radeon X1900XT (Sapphire) Memory  - 2 gb (2 modules) Hard disk - Samsung SP1614C (SATA) Using default cooler - standard, applied with the processors PSU - CHIEFTEC GPS-550AB A Processor Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Core 2 eXtreme X6800 Techno Process 90 nm 65 nm Core Frequency , GHz 2,6 2,93 Core Quantity 2 2 Cache L2 *, KB 2x512 4096 Bus Frequency , MHz 400 ddr2 266 qp Default multiplier 14 10 socket Socket AM2 LGA775 Typical heat emission 89 W > 75 W AMD64/EM64T + + Hyper-Threading - - Virtualization Technology + + Software Windows xp Professional X64 Edition SP1. 3ds max 7.0 Maya 6.5 Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 SolidWorks 2005 F.E.A.R. 1.3 Half- Life 2 Unreal Tournament 2004 build 3339 Quake 4  Release 1.1 Drivers NVIDIA ForceWare 91.31 ATI CATALYST 6.6 NVIDIA nForce SMBus Driver 4.50 Intel INF Update 7.2.2.1006 We had some issue  using the lastest driver from nvidia the 91.47 and 6.8 from ati when runing 3ds max 7 so we just used the lastest stable driver. Testing 3ds max 7.0 it is pretty clear that going from amd to intel cpu give 30 % performance boost in borth case with ati or nidia card .from 2 to 3 with nvidia 7800gtx and from 1.5 to 2 using the x1900xt Maya 6.5 Looking at results of SPEC  Maya, we only were convinced on the fact that Radeon X1900XT loose in this kind of application over the GeForce 7800GTX .notice about the same nice scale going from amd 64 x2 xpu to conroe x6800. Professional programs in practice do not use Direct3D, and prefer OpenGL .note that Direct3D can he used in 3ds max but  it  works  in OpenGL- regime as default). so for  Professional programs nvidia do a better job thanks to their optimized open gl driver SolidWorks 2005 well the most intressing point here the performance of amd 64 cpu @ 2.6 ghz with 7900gtx vs conroe @ 2930 with x1900xt are equal .this without taking into account the higher conroe clock frequency or the higher cache and price... F.E.A.R. We pass to real gaming know - and everything changes : ATI Radeon X1900XT is the leader . As it is assumed to be more powerful and more contemporary video card. the cpu boost is more tha clear here the gaming fps with x1900xtx and amd fx 5000+ could not even reach the performance of the conroe with 7800gtx card .going from  amd to intel using nvidia 7800gtx card give 34 additional fps /s .and with ati card 44 fps . it clear that with better card the performance will be even higher Half- life 2 In this game amd is pretty over a non sence sutuation intel cpu is about twice faster (about 80% better).so from  2600mhz A64 to 2930 intel with nvidia card we got 68 fps  and 87 woth ati  card a rather good ammunt of fps . Quake 4 First game play where the  relatively weak video card on chip NVIDIA  succeeded to show good result if   compared to ATI Radeon X1900XT (result on Intel platform ). even in such situation we can also see the clear boost with intel cpu using the same card from nvidia in borth platform give 21 additional fps and 29 with ati card. Unreal Tournament 2004 Here is an additional example we tae all setting to max in unral 2004 with 1600x1200 resultion and what is the result it look that borth card performe about the same in eatch platform a kind of cpu limitation.it si clear that amd max ith average of near 70 fps and intel in the 90 .intel show to be about 30 % faster in this case Conclusion It may be not right to test the lastest conroe cpu with only a 5000+ we should use at least an fx 62 .but this is not the subject of this review.we want to show how much game gain from current cpu power.in all case in was proven that conroe cpu with 7800gtx card is faster than the amd with ati card .even a 7800gt could complete with amd setup with such cpu.in Professional aoolication nvidia show good performance due to their good optimized driver. Drivers ATI have very weak optimization for the professional applications, which use OpenGL API, as a result of the fact that the company was concentrated on the satisfaction of gamer demands, and it is not occupied by the professional applications. ATI is not consciously including the code for optimized   professional applications but they are  included  in drivers for  professional  3d- accelerators FireGL). For this reason we spoken that  in ATI, contrast to NVIDIA, there is no standar driver for amator of  professional progs. Combination of the first and second version: optimization for 3d gaming and professional application can be done but it si very complex .
