Intel prepared the release of Intel P35 chipset for their new processor with
1333mHz system Bus .According to intel Only Bearlake chipset are able to support
similar system bus , but motherboard producer again proved that many P965 just
as 975 chipset are also capable to handle those processor.
Today we will check the first released processor core 2 duo E6x50 or in other
world : Core 2 duo E6750 .
Let us recall that this last will present for the first time the 1333Mhz
system bus , ( 333Mhz quad bumped ) , in addition intel will present those
processor on a completely attractive price, 186$ for Core 2 duo E6750 witch even
lower than Core 2 duo E6700 , Intel stimulate user for passage to the new
system bus .Let us check in this review the performance boost proposed by the
new system bus with Core 2 duo E6750 and Core 2 Duo E6550 .
Core 2 duo E6750 , E6550 and 1333 Mhz FSB:
With New Core 2 DUO E6750 Intel introduced the new G0 stepping
witch offer the new system bus 1333 Mhz and lower power consumption.
As it was prescribed in the processor box, This last operate at
2.66 GHZ and have 1333 MHz system bus .The processor default voltage is 1.25 V
and intel set 1.35v as maximum .This processor remain packed with LGA 775 socket
, and it was prepared in MALAY .
According to cpuz screen shot this processor is made on 65 NM technical
process as all other core 2 duo , and has as default voltage 1.184 v for
a working frequency equal to 2666 Mhz . The system Bus frequency is 1333 Mhz
with (333 x 4 quad bumped bus ) .Intel set the default multiplier to 8X so we
have (333 x 8 = 2666 MHZ). In other world this processor has two processor
working at 2666 Mhz with 4MB L2 shared cache (each core can access to the hole
available L2 memory).
Let us note that Core 2 DUO E6700 (from previous processor generation) has
higher multiplier (9X) but using 266 Mhz system bus So we have (266 x 9 = 2666
MHZ )
This processor support MMX, SSE,SS3,EM64T. In addition to intel Enhanced
SpeedStep witch control the processor voltage and frequency for optimum
performance and low power consumption.
In the other side Core 2 Duo E6550 has exactly the same future but using
lower multiplier witch in this case is set to 7x.
Again according to cpuz screen shot The core 2 Duo E6550 work at
2380 MHz , But let us note that our motherboard slightly overclocked the
processor , instead of 333 MHz the Bios automatically set the bus frequency to
340 Mhz giving a working frequency equal to 2380 Mhz , The default of this
processor should be 2330 Mhz .
But here the default vcore seem to be more correct with 1.264 V
(The default according to intel is 1.25v ) , just as core 2 duo e6750.
Many motherboard on base of old chipset already overclock to 400 Mhz + ,
Motherboard producer have time to add support for those processor in Intel 965
and 975 motherboard , But according to intel only Bearlake based chipset support
officially those new professor. We do not forget about NVIDIA chipset witch
already stated That the hole series 6xx support the system bus 1333 MHz without
any problem .
Next generation Nvidia chipset will even provide support to 1666 Mhz system
bus . witch is not required by all processor produced in 2007 - 2008 , But this
will give a nice overclocking reserve.
Now the theoretical memory bandwidth is increased from the old 8,5 GB/S using
the 1066mhz system bus (Quad bumped = 266 x 4) to 10,6 GB/S using 1333 mhz
system bus (Quad bumped = 333 x 4) .This remain low to max out current DDR2 800
MHz witch theoretical bandwidth in over 12GB/s but this should improve the
memory performance theoretically by just over 20%.
Core 2 duo E6750 just
like the E6550 model has about 220 million transistors with TDP 65 Watts.
Core 2 duo E6750 and E6550 Overclocking :
Core 2 Duo E6750 just as Core 2 Duo E6550 are very good overclockers
. we was able to make an easy 3.6 GHz from the E6750 and 3534 from the E6550 ,
Congrats to the abit motherboard witch showed good potential for overclocking
the system bus . In today review we will also test the Core 2 duo E6750 @ 3.5
GHZ , witch was an ultra stable frequency using intel Stock cooler , 3.6 GHz
was also stable for test but for same reason it fail in occt test. So for us the
stable limit using air cooling (boxed cooler) is 3.5 GHZ .We was able to make
3.8 GHZ From The core 2 duo E6750 with some voltage (Vcore) boost ,but
temperature became high .so we just stopped there .Let us note also That For
Core 2 Duo E6550 @ 3.5 GHz was also stable for test but fail in OCCT , The limit
for 6 hours Prime95 and OCCT was 3360 MHZ .SO in both case we have 1 GHZ
overclock , Here is The new 2.4C coming back .
To test the performance of those processor we used the following system :
Motherboard abit IP35 pro v1.00, BIOS 1.0;
Processor intel core 2 Duo e6550 (2.33 GHz, FSB of 333 MHz, 4 MB., Conroe,
rev. G0) and intel core 2 Duo e6750 (2.66 GHz, FSB of 333 MHz, 4 MB., Conroe,
rev. G0);
Hard disk seagate barracuda 7200.10, ST3320620AS, 7200 r/min, 16 MB., SATA
320 GB;
Cooling system zalman CNPS9700 LED;
Power unit OCZ gameXStream GXS700 (700 W).
3DMark 06 - v1.1.0 - Processor Test
Well the overclocked Core 2 Duo E6750 lead This benchmark , Core 2 duo
E6750 show faster performance than its analog with 1066 Mhz system bus (Core 2
Duo E6700).The same picture for Core 2 Extreme E6850 and X6800 , But the
performance deference is pretty low , going from 1333 Mhz to 1066 result in 1-2%
boost.
PCMark05 - CPU - v1.2.0
Pc mark 2005 show the same picture as above , Processor with higher
system bus are a bit faster (by 1-2%).The overclocked Intel core 2 Duo show some
nice score here followed by Intel Core 2 Extreme E6850. The Amd Athlon 64 x2
6000+ performance is somewhere between core 2 Duo E6600 and Core 2 Duo
E6700
PCMark 05 - Memory - v1.2.0
Well The memory test show exactly what we expected , the higher system
bus result in higher memory bandwidth , Core 2 Duo E6750 is faster than Core 2
Duo E6700 . The E6550 in sprite of its lower frequency show higher memory
bandwidth than the E6600 (2.33 Ghz vs 2.4 Ghz ) ,Thanks to the higher system bus
,the overclocked Core 2 Duo E6750 is just flaying with about 17% higher
performance than the stock clocked one
Sandra Xi - SP1 - Processor Test
Sandra Processor test , don't show any boost from the higher system bus , all
here depend on the clock frequency , deference between processor with same clock
and different system bus (1066 vs 1333 Mhz) is very Tide . Core 2 Extreme E6850
Lead this test but The overclocked processor is even higher . The AMD processor
show here a respectable result with performance higher than both E6700 and E6750
but lower than X6800 .
Sandra Xi - SP1 - Memory Test
The figure seen in PC mark 2005 Memory test is repeated here .AMD processor
are just flaying with about 10GB/s bandwidth but intel processor still limited
to their low system bus .Thanks to the hyper-transport system and to the
integrated memory controller . We hope to see similar result with Next
Quick-path Intel system bus and integrated memory controller ,witch should be
released in mid 2008 with next generation processor
Cinebench 9.5
Cinebench Just as sandra Do not show any clean performance boost from the
1333 MHz system bus , The deference between the old and new processor with same
clock and deference system bus remain in the 1-2% range . Core 2 Duo E6750 is
just a bit faster than core 2 duo E6700.
Divx Video encoding
For video encoding test we used Divx codec , one of the most optimized
codec for multi-core processor , the result expressed here are in second , so
Lower value mean higher performance . There is some boost from the higher bus
here .The 1333 Mhz allow to save 8 second (Core 2 Duo E6750 vs E6700). Let us
again note that both processor have the same frequency but with different system
bus .
WinRAR & 7-Zip : Files Compression
Nothings new with archiving application , The
performance between core 2 duo E6750 and E6700 is below 1%.The overclocked
processor show here some good result .The result are expressed here in KB/s.
using the build in benchmark utility in 7-zip and winrar.
Doom 3 v1.3 - 1024x768x32
We seem to be here limited by the video card performance all processor
perform about the same . The poorest being the AMD 64 ad The fastest is the
overclocked Core 2 Duo E6750.
Far Cry v1.4 - 1024x768x32
Far Cry here Show another picture here, The higher system bus has a small
impact in the gaming performance .The overclocked E6750 is here the fastest .
Let us note the poor result from Previous gaming processor (AMD 64 X2 6000+)
witch are even lower than 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo E6550.
Call Of Duty 2 - v1.3 - 1024x768x32
Again Video card limitation ,But here AMD show some nice result with
performance equal to Core 2 extreme X6800 , the overclocked Core 2 Duo E6750 is
a leader with 2 fps boost over the E6850 processor.

.
Conclusion
As conclusion Core 2 Duo E6X50 don't bring any noticeable performance boost
with the 1333 Mhz system bus .But the high overclocking capability , low price ,
lower than previous processor energy consumption make them very attractive for
new purchase .
