All our daily readers know already about the new chipset intel p35 express. Motherboard on base of this chipset got already a large popularity between overclocker. The overclock of new systems is more simplified. But far from all PC are overclocked. So Why to overpay if overclock do not interest ? This especially concerns home cinemas and office PC. All the required from similar configurations is the support of basic multimedia technologies, fast work and minimum noise. For this reason we choose today to review the motherboard Intel DP965LT witch will answer to the question above....
Intel DP965LT Assembly and packing
Let us note that is this review we used the engineering sample model and it is completely predicted that retail product will be presented in colorful and presentable packing.
The assembly of our test model contained :
1 X motherboard;
2 X SATA- cable red color;
1 X quick start guide ;
1 X book with BIOS update instructions ;
1 x home entertainment guide;
1 X IDE- cable 80;
1 x disk with drivers;
1 X diskette with RAID driver ;
The motherboard intel DP35DP is made in the form factor ATX, and support all processors models (LGA775) with frequencies of system bus from 800 MHZ , in addition this motherboard will support future 45NM processor. Just as the 800 MHZ system bus intel DP35DP support also processors with system bus frequency 1333Mhz, which are already announced. From many side this motherboard repeats its predecessor, DP965LT. intel DP35DP completely corresponds to Intel VIIV 2007 platform . Processors with system bus frequency 533 MHz are not supported, which also was confirmed also in practice. Test with Celeron D result in black screen (the system just refused to start )....

Intel DP965LT Special features
Around the processor there are no high elements, which could prevent the installation of large radiators.
This allow to install a super-cooler without fan, which is frequently claimed in multimedia configurations.
The processor power system appears unusually empty, after looking to engineering solutions from overclocker motherboard like ASUS, ABIT and other ; however if we take in consideration the orientation of this motherboard , it becomes clear that the used solution is completely sufficient for guaranteeing stable work for all contemporary CPU running at default speed.
Processor power and voltage Control is achieved by the chip intersil ISL6312, which is 4- channel converter and corresponds to the standards intel VR10 \ VR11. However, on this motherboard where used only 3 phase converter.
Chipset cooling is simple and simultaneously effective. The sufficiently dimensional aluminum radiator is installed on the north bridge. New chipset heat less than predecessor, and passive cooling is completely sufficient. The radiator on the south bridge is also made from aluminum with a small sizes.
This motherboard do not support SLI or Crossfire, and has only one full slot for a graphic card PCI-Express x16. For additional device this motherboard offer 3 slot PCI and 3 slot PCI-Express X1. This is completely sufficient for the majority of applications.
Intel motherboard , with rare exception ( 975XBX ), are not intended for overclock, and do not have frequencies or voltages controls . The utilized on Intel DP35DP generator silego SLG505YC264BT is not compatible with the popular overclock utilities clock Gen, SetFSB and similar. However, This generator support smooth frequency control, up to 720 MHz :-), possibly someone will write a program, which supports overclock for this and similar motherboards.
Network possibilities are managed by the chip intel 82566DC gbE, which support all operating modes and high-speed installations from 10Mbit \ s to 1Gbit \ s.
The sound chip support 8-channel , and corresponds to the specifications intel HD audio. It Is produced by Sigmatel , STAC9271D. This intel motherboard is also equipped with fire Wire interface , for this there is a special controller from Texas instruments.
The fire Wire interface is widely used for digital video cameras, external disk and other devices connection , which require a high exchange rate . Unfortunately, the installed chip support only the speed 400Mbit \s.
Storage system is presented in the form of 6 serial ATA connector, moreover one of them has eSATA connection. Intel ICH9R (South bridge) support work in regime RAID in the levels 0, 1, 5 or 10. All ports can work in the regime SATA-2 (3 Gbit \s ).
On this motherboard there are no port for keyboard or mouse with (PS \ 2) connection. It is interesting to observe the diskette with RAID- drivers intel ICH8 \ 9R that is supplied in the complete set with the motherboard :-) .
Intel DP35DP is prepared with 4- layer conductors, which contributes to reduce the final motherboard cost , and as consequence a larger accessibility for offices. Overclocking motherboard frequently use more 6 or even 8 layer , intended to increase the stability of the overclocked systems.
During the system assembly we have not any problems. Memory are near the video card, but this did not create obstacles for memory module or video card installation .
Intel DP35DP BIOS Possibilities
Intel BIOS is the simplest ever , But there is some setting that can be adjusted .Let us note that the bios used was a beta version : for example with the attempt to change the language from English to any other the system just hang up . There are no overclock functions , voltage do not have any adjustment settings, it is possible to change only the basic memory latencies and additional devices , controllers setings.
In addition , if we change the jumper connection J7LB to position 2-3, the BIOS will allow some additional configuration, among them it is possible to note the function QST (Quiet system technology, that monitor and control the fans speed ).
The Floppy- controller which is realized on this motherboard, but connection was not established.
Memory configuration : it is possible to change the frequency to (533 \ 667 \ 800 MHZ) and four basic latencies.
The bios update procedure is a bit complex here: First we have to place the BIOS file (* .bio) in the flash disk, then we have to remove J7LB to clean USB flash, which will indicate to the motherboard to start the restoration BIOS procedure .
We did not succeed in installing the operating system Windows XP using SATA- disk in RAID regime , moreover diskettes driver did not help . The operating system reported about incorrect file iostor.sys. With driver from Intel ICH8R we was able to begin the installation ; however, during primary devices detection we got the dark-blue screen of death with the error STOP 0x0000000A. The installation Of Microsoft Windows vista became possible only after the use of driver from Intel ICH8R .
Intel DP35DP system performance :
To test the possibilities of this motherboard we used the processor core 2 Duo e6600, cooled by water cooling system , 2 GB memory, which works on low latencies, video card NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB, and RAID made by two disk seagate barracuda 7200.10. For comparison we used the motherboard on base of Intel p965 express : ASUS P5B deluxe wiFi \ AP.
Let us note that new chipset intel p35 do not heat above +70 degree Celsiuss.
As a whole the performance of this new chipsets is practically correct. Noticeably small performance improvement in the memory system with the new chipset. This was expressed in superPI test .
Conclusions
DP35DP proved its high stability and quality, a traditional attribute from original intel motherboards . The system performance is completely sufficient for multimedia applications without any overclock. This motherboard support all possible contemporary and future processors and video card. The quantity of interfaces and ports is completely sufficient for the majority of applications Intel DP35DP motherboard is proposed from $124.
Intel DP35DP Plus (+)
Low cost
High operational stability, qualitative assembly;
Support all contemporary and future CPU.
Intel DP35DP Deficiencies (-)
Absence of minimum overclock possibilities ;
Complexities with RAID installation and bios setting ;
No PS \ 2 port or Floppy.
