Applied micro circuits corporation (AMCC) and Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company (TSMC) declared about collaboration, which will allow to release processors with power architecture at the power of TSMC. Those processors will use 90 nm technical process, but soon is it planned to transfer them on 65 and 40 nm standards.
AMCC processors with power architecture, intended for built in systems, will be made not on the more complex and more expensive technology silicon on insulator (Silicon-on-Insulator, SOI), but on the simpler and cheaper technology CMOS.
The first product will become the processor APM 83290, which works at the frequency 1,5 GHz.
The basic application fields of AMCC processors with power architecture are wireless access points, base stations honeycomb networks, multifunctional devices, data depositories and consumer electronics.
