Recently appeared information about the absence of the integrated USB 3.0 controller in Intel chipset sixth series, Intel company can compensate with a discrete controller with the support of this interface. AMD Company already released the south bridge SB850 with SATA-600 support.
Associate reported details about the names of chipset Intel sixth series, known to us under the code group designation cougar point. Elder chipset in the series will be called p67 and H67 - they will replace the chipset p55 and H57, respectively. Both new chipsets will support the processors generation sandy bridge LGA 1155 with the built-in graphic core. The possibilities of the chipset from the work with discrete graphical solutions will be distinguished: P67 will be able to select between the configuration PCI express x16 and PCI express x8 + PCI express x8, and H67 will obtain only PCI express x16.
Both chipsets will support 14 ports USB 2.0, four ports SATA-300 and two ports SATA-600, the quantity of supported single lines PCI express 2.0 will be equal to eight. Let us note that the south bridge AMD SB850 supports six ports SATA-600.
In the first quarter 2011 will be also present chipset Intel for business platforms: Q67, Q65 and B65. The latter will be characterized by the support of only 12 ports USB 2.0. Only Q67 will support serial ATA (2 x SATA-600 + 4 x SATA-300), chipset q65 and B65 will support on one port SATA-600 and five ports SATA-300.
