Seagate confirmed rumors about the forthcoming announcement of 3 TB HDD. The corresponding hard disk will be presented at the end of this year in the segment of corporate solutions.
The principles of addressing and data access in the form of LBA placed in the eightieth years of past century work only with HDD with volume not more than 2.1 Tb. To increase LBA length allow the standard Of long LBA, but it is supported only by newer operating systems like 64-bit versions Windows vista and Windows 7, and also special linux versions, and good old Windows XP remain outside the technical progress. Moreover, Windows XP users obtain access only 990 Gb of space from 3 Tb HDD.
The support of 3 TB hdd must be realized, also, at the level of motherboard micro-code. Classical Bios cannot make this; therefore motherboard producers are forced to pass on UEFI. At least, this is correct with the use of 3 TB HDD as boot disk. The drivers of RAID controllers will also require adaptation to the HDD with volume of more than 2.1 Tb. The corresponding hard disks first will appear in the segment of corporate solutions. Related Products :
