AMD repeatedly postponed the release of desktop processors, Zambezi, based on Bulldozer. However, delay has not touched their server counterparts, known under Interlagos - the world's first 16 core x86-compatible processors. The deliveries will began in August.
New AMD processors will be manufactured under the brand name AMD Opteron 6200 and are compatible with G34, which are based on current-generation . Interlagos can have 8, 12 or 16 cores (depending on model), up to 16 megabytes of cache memory third level and are equipped with built-in four-channel memory controller, DDR3. In addition, these processors support up to four simultaneous transfers via HyperTransport.
AMD partners will begin selling those CPU in the fourth quarter this year. Interlagos can cost-effectively upgrade the computing power of supercomputers. Related Products :
