Developers of "smart cars" do everything to ensure that their "collective mind" day by day increases the safety of behavior on the road of each individual car controlled automaticly. In the "cloud" storage, not only data are sent about all incidents and potentially emergency situations, but an actual map of road defects and other hazards is formed. Accordingly, this experiment improves the control algorithms, and the "autopilot" constantly learns from other people's (preferably) mistakes.
Reuters reported that the suspension of the test for three days after the accident with the prototype of robocar turned over on the side, Uber received from the Arizona Police preliminary results of the investigation, and the absence of the fault of the injured Volvo XC90 is confirmed. This allows Uber to resume trials of robocar in three US cities, where prototypes not only move through the streets with a tester and assistant in the front seats, but also periodically bring passengers.
This publication intrigues the comments of one of the professors of Columbia University in New York, which deals with mechanics and robotics. According to this eminent specialist, studies show that over the years a person does not start driving more safely, but remains a lifetime at roughly the same level with minor variations. "Autopilot" is constantly improving control algorithms and over the years it is becoming more and more secure. About 23 thousand people die on the roads of the whole world on a weekly basis, and the main task of "mobile cars" is to reduce this number. According to the professor, the idea of a person's superiority over automatics in matters of driving safety is a rather dangerous delusion, creating a false sense of comfort.
