Microsoft released the first windows 8 developper edition which is available for download , we decided to make an overview about this promising operating system. Windows 8 is an OS dedicated mainly for Tablet PC , In order to archive good performance under such device , Microsoft reworked the desktop interface allowing fast access to most used application , now windows main start bar is well optimized for touch screen monitor : As you can see in the screen shot above , Internet explorer ,  windows setting , desktop and many other including social network are directly accesible . This was the welcome screen we got directly after login . The good old desktop still there too : Microsoft almost reworked all interface , here is the new control panel The new internet explorer accesible directly from the start menu : The interface is very confortable for touch screen , microsoft remove all excess function , the browser is quite sample, fast and useful. There is also a new task manager , we really like the new feature on it : A new open with menu : From the interface side and layout , awsome huge job was done , We were more intrested on the new OS performance , in sprite of being a beta version the new OS show a wortly performance . Here is the test system we used : Processor : Core i7 2600k @ 4.5 Ghz Motherboard : Asus P8P67 PRO Memory : 4 GB DDR3 Storage : 28GB SSD kingston hyperX Video card  : Geforce GTX570 Let us note that some tests did not run under the new OS (hang or crash) . all this should be fixed before official release . so we are limited to the few test that worked sucessfeully . Windows 8 show higher performance in compression and decompressing operation , it is clear that I/O memory system was optimized . this will be confirmed in other tests . The memory latency is faster in windows 8 , like the memory copy/write/read . in all those test windows 8 show a better performance , average boost is as high as 5%. Well interssing fegure we got here , Cinbench XCPU under windows 8 was runing faster than windows 7 , the performance in openGL and just cause 2 was about the same (taking in account that driver are not optimized for windows 8). Microsoft come with very intressing OS , well optimized for touch screen , has better layout and functionlity , compeltly reworked interface and some better efficiency .
