Modern supercomputers are actively using accelerator-based on computing graphics processors from AMD and NVIDIA, in some cases, they are Intel company Larrabee class solutions based on x86-compatible cores. Recent ARM initiatives, on the other hand, are aimed at promoting its products in the server segment, and Intel company , if we believe rumors, is preparing a balanced response with a special modification of Atom processor. What's in this regard AMD has to offer , except accelerators based on GPU computing?
The company managed to build the first cluster, using hybrid AMD processors to speed up computations by their graphics system that supports OpenCL. A cluster consists of 104 servers connected high-speed interface, it provides the theoretical performance of 59.6 teraflops level. The system was developed by Altus 2A00 Penguin Computing in close collaboration with AMD, a server is placed in 2U form factor . The first cluster, using the processor Llano, will work with Sandia National Laboratory in New Mexico, performing research and development for the U.S. Department of Defense. Related Products :
