A month ago OCZ company introduced OCZ SSD series Octane, which are based on Indilinx production controller and flash memory MLC.   IC Indilinx Everest was the first solution, created after the transition of Developer under OCZ.  This SSD is positioned as  an alternative to existing solutions based on SandForce controllers.   SSD Octane 128 GB has a recommended price of $ 200 , for model with 256 GB capacity will be asked $ 370.  The claimed read speed is equal to 535 MB / s write - 400 MB / sec.  When working with random blocks it can provide up to 37,000 I / Os per second for reading and up to 17 000 operations in writing.  Test system was based on Intel DH67BL motherboard Intel Core i7-2600K (3.4 GHz), two memory modules, Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1333 (7-7-7-20) 2GB each, and video card EVGA GeForce GTX 285. The first test was the application from Iometer list , where the speed of work with blocks of 4 KB  OCZ Octane Drive confidently walked all the competitors came close to the result of Samsung SSD 830.  After transition from reading to writing,  Octane almost dropped to the bottom of the table with results inferior to Samsung drives , Crucial, and other SSD based on SF-2281 controller.  However, let us note the failure of performance will not occur in the majority of non-specific applications that are used in desktop PCs. In sequential read and write operations Octane consistently demonstrates the average statistical models to test results.  But in subsequent tests, the controller Indilinx, finally, fully disclose their opportunities ahead of its opponents, or demonstrating performance approximate to the leaders.
