According to a source referenced by the online edition of GizmoChina , MediaTek not only refuses to participate in the race for the number of computing cores, but will reduce their number. Helio P40 will receive only six cores instead of eight, like its predecessor. This will be two cores Cortex-A73 and four Cortex-A53. The chip itself will be built on a 12-nanometer process. Which graphics chip will be part of the Helio P40, is still unknown.
As expected, Helio P40 will be a worthy competitor to Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, which is considered to be the leader of the middle class. It is reported that now MediaTek is negotiating with Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Gionee and other major players about the use of Helio P40 in their smartphones.
The first devices based on MediaTek Helio P23 and Helio P30 will enter the market in the fourth quarter of 2017. Given this, it can be assumed that the Helio P40 will be announced in the final quarter of this year, and in smartphones will appear in the first quarter of next year.
