For AMD platform the most urgent actual update in the second half-year will become the introduction of support to system bus hyperTransport 3.0; therefore AMD partners already prepare the corresponding chipsets for processors socket AM2+. At the same time will appears the support of PCI express 2.0.
Associates published a slide from road map AMD, on which were visible new chipsets, which will be released in the second-half of 2007 and in first half of 2008. As we already communicated, in the segment high-end will be released the discrete chipset RD790, which will propose the support Of hyperTransport 3.0, and also the possibility of association for several video card in regimes crossfire according to : PCI express x16 + PCI express x16 or 4 x PCI express x8.
In the mass price segment as change to RS690 we find the discrete chipset RX740 with support to hyperTransport 3.0 and PCI express 2.0, RS740+ will be support the hyperTransport 3.0 and PCI express 1.x, and its built-in graphic core will be compatible with DirectX 9.0.
In the first half of 2008 will appear the integrated chipset RS780, produced on 55 nm technical process. It will possess the graphic core of class RV610 with directX 10 support , DVI, HDMI and two-monitor configurations. The interface side port will allow to use up to 256 mb memory for the needs of graphic core. Chipset will be able to work with the AMD processors , which support memory of type DDR 2-1066 and DDR 3-1333. In other words, this chipset can be used for creating motherboard socket AM3. Besides HyperTransport 3.0, chipset RS780 will support PCI express 2.0.
In the first half of 2008 will appear the south bridge SB700, which will enlarge the functionality of SB600 with the introduction of RAID 5 support , the number of ports SATA-300 will be increased from four to six, and the number of ports USB 2.0 - from ten to twelve. two ports will be intended for connection of flash- memory - this south bridge will support technology, analogous to ReadyBoost (Robson).
