Many for sure remember the single core processors Conroe- L with has the high multiplier and small cache volume in the second level, which did not exceed 512 KB or 1 mb. depending on version. We assumed that the given engineering models were created for motherboard compatibility testing with processors pentium e2xxx and Celeron 4xx, but it was then explained that processors family pentium e2xxx will have dual core structure. According to the Relatively fresh road map , in this year the pentium e2xxx frequency will not rise more than 1.8 GHz, but for processors celeron 4xx it will achieve the 2.0 GHz frequency .
Here is the: Core 2 Duo e4800 (2.8 GHz, 1 mb cache, SL9SY - on the right photo ) and Core 2 Duo e4600 (2.4 GHz, 512 KB cache, SL9R on the left photo ).
In both cases these are single core processors stepping A0 with 800 MHz system bus, which allow for them to change the multiplier in the range from 6x to 14x (Core 2 Duo e4800) and from 6x to 12x (Core 2 Duo e4600). We should note that those processor do not have a large overclocking potential , in overclocking the max frequency achieved was only a bit higher than 3.2 GHz. Obviously, the situation with limited overclocking potential of processors allendale-L2 is repeated.
Let us note that the layout of elements in the processor differ from the layout of elements in processors stepping L2.
Such cpu appeared in Chinese retail in the middle of March, it is possible to purchase them on the price from $55 to $75. This is very attractive price for architecture core processor even if they are single core.
Their appearance of such processor does not mean that the processors series with similar characteristics will be soon announced. However, we note that in the list of changes in the new bios versions of motherboard aSRock we found references about the support of mysterious processors conroe stepping A1. Either ASRock will introduces the support of old engineering models dual core processors or we deal here with future stepping A1 of single core processors Conroe- L. Let us recall that the announcement of processors celeron 4xx and Pentium e2xxx will take place 3-5 June of 2007.
Here is some test result @ 2800 MHz with x1950 GT
Here is now benchie @ 3275 MHz
