The graphic processor GK104, has been designed taking into account the principle of effective spending of transistor budget and worries about energy efficiency. Before NVIDIA made an unconditional bid for long and productive crystals, and AMD had to oppose with a dual graphics card solutions based on two more compact crystals.
Each successive process technology, according to NVIDIA, does not give the obvious savings in transistor density increase. Costs increase with faster cards and soon the move to the next stage of process technology will not be giving the old economic effect. NVIDIA Calculations shows that the transition to 20 nm and 14 nm standards do not provide savings compared to the 28 nm process technology.
In this context, it becomes clear why NVIDIA care about transistor budget to create GK104. Compact but productive core allows the company to reduce production costs. Related Products :
