HGST company (formerly known as Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, now part of Western Digital) promised to show the industry's first SAS interface SSD with 12 Gbit / s. The drive is designed for high performance servers and storage.
The new interface retains backward compatibility with its predecessor, SAS 6 Gb / s, but has twice more bandwidth. This makes it attractive to build high-performance storage systems, which use elements of SAS 6 Gb / s infrastructure, which helps to protect your investment.
The presence of second port - frequent attribute of enterprise-class drives - can provide a drive with a new interface bandwidth 4.8 GB / s.
The drive, which is going to show HGST, has been tested for compatibility with controllers and SAS ports 12 Gb / s from LSI and PMC-Sierra production.
Industry's transition to the use of SAS 12 Gb / s is expected in 2013.
