NVIDIA and Intellectual Ventures announced the joint signing of intellectual property acquisition (developer of wireless communications technologies IPWireless). We are talking about almost 500 patents in the field of standards, LTE, LTE-Advanced and 3G/4G.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but we know that the development of IPWireless will be divided between the Intellectual Ventures and NVIDIA so that the latter will retain the right to license the technology. Intellectual Ventures, in turn, receives unlimited and free access to the acquired intellectual property.
NVIDIA has a great interest in the market of single-chip systems and solutions for smartphones, such as offering partners Tegra processors and cellular modems, Icera. The company currently does not have its own decision to support LTE.
Intellectual Ventures (IV) proudly calls itself the investor, but, in fact, the company business model meets the definition of patent troll. At the disposal of IV are about 30,000 patents, while the company does not conduct an independent productive activity, preferring to earn income from royalties. Among investors, IV can be found companies as Microsoft, Intel, Sony, Nokia, Apple, Google, SAP, NVIDIA and eBay.
