Being the second most populous country in the world, India is trying to strengthen its position in the high-tech sector. Initiative to create a budget tablet intended primarily for the supply of electronic textbook of local students. Last year, the Indian government began to search for investors for the construction in the country of one or two factories to produce microcircuits.
Now leading Israeli company Tower Semiconductor, should lead the building of the first Indian factory capable of producing up to 30,000 wafers per month. The decision to start construction should be adopted before the end of this year.
Tower Semiconductor is a member of the group, who will be engaged in the construction of the Indian semiconductor factory. The group also includes IBM and the Indian cement maker Jaypee Associates. It is clear that the last company will supply construction materials, but IBM will help to learn lithographic processes: 90 nm, 65 nm and 45 nm. It is assumed that Tower will retain the right to use part of the capacity of Indian companies for their own needs. The Israeli company will also be responsible for the operation of the factory as a whole.
