ABI Research experts analysts are not predicting explosive growth in popularity of tablets running Windows this year. According to them, tablets running Windows 8 and Windows RT simply do not have time to take a 1.5% market share this year.
In the future, the success of these devices will depend on the pricing policy of manufacturers. If tablets will compete on price with devices based on Android, they can wait for a tenfold increase in sales volumes. If as a guide will be elected iPad, then sales will increase only by two or three times. Note that in reality, the market can implement both of these scenarios, as tablets running Windows RT costs will be closer to its Android-competitors, and solutions based on Windows 8 will be competing not only with iPad, but also with ultrabook.
ABI Research Estimated that the most capacious market for Windows-based tablets will be the corporate sector, where iPad and Android-based solutions are not yet significant spread. Potential of Windows RT will be revealed later, when the platform will form its own customer base and will be a sufficient number of compatible applications. It is possible that the success of the platform Windows-on-ARM will come through several generations of operating system.
