In October last year, plans were announced the investment corporation INCJ to reform its semiconductor manufacturer Renesas. It was assumed that LSI System division will be combined with similar structures Fujitsu and Panasonic, manufacturing the chips for consumer electronics.
In March 2014, Fujitsu and Panasonic are going to join their units System LSI, to jointly develop and produce chips for the consumer electronics sector. Funding for the transaction will be provided in part state-owned bank in Japan. Further investment in a joint venture with the Japanese authorities may reach a few hundred million dollars.
It is expected that Fujitsu and Panasonic will also cooperate in the field of System LSI with Taiwan's TSMC. Obviously designed by Japanese engineers chips will be produced at TSMC facilities. Fujitsu has said that the published information above was not based on official comments.
