We already reported about intel intentions to remove certain overclock limitations in mainboard on base of chipset intel x38, Today appeared new details about this uncommon initiative.

Thus, at the specialized press conference Intel representatives described that motherboard on base of chipsets intel x38 and Intel p35 will be supplied with utility intel extreme tuning, which will allow overclocker to select certain processor overclock profiles , memory and system bus PCI express. More experienced users can control overclock manually . This tool will allow also to regulate the fans speed .

The technology intel extreme memory will become the unique answer to EPP expansions , the analog of this technology from Intel will work only with DDR- 3 memory and chipset intel x38. Company representatives succeeded to overclock the memory to DDR 3-2000 regime with system frequency 500 MHz.

Talking about chipset intel x38 , let us note the mainboard MSI x38 diamond, which has several interesting special features. First, in it are four slots for DDR 3-1333 memory and two slots for DDR2-1066 memory . .

In the second place, this mainboard has four slots PCI express x16, two of which work at full speed, and two others work in regime PCI express x8. This mainboard in a certain sense is alternative to FASN8 class systems , which allow the support of technology crossFire 2.0 using four video card.

In a word, mainboard producers used all their possibilities in chipset intel x38 . ...

There\'s a video on youtube of a Dell employee demonstrating overclocking of the new xps 720. There\'s an option there in the bios to enable overclocking and the use of this tuning tool. Would it be possible to make the xps 420 (without the bios option) also overclockable? Any techie types know if that could be done?
