The basic differences between the chipset Intel x48 and x38 is the official support to 1600 MHz system bus, corresponding frequency dividers, and also the possibility to exploit a pair of modules DDR 3-1600 with XMP technology and 1.8 v  . 	So really the x48 is more like x38.5...

	So the main difference between them is the X48 can use DDR3 - 1600.. But the X38 can use DDR3 too, just not the 1600 type?

ok to make things clear. from 1333 to 1600 there is a single 2% overall speed increase. its the same on ddr2 principle 800-1066. not worth it,for its price. a lot of people are having bad taste saying ddr3 is jusnt int worth it yet. its not completly wrong. 1333 mhz one are the only one that are worth it. so stick with a x38 board from either asus,msi,gigabyte. intel boxed boards are cheaper but they just can\'t fu%$?$g overclock.

	Yeah right , DDR3 do not worth it currently , moreover for speed less than 1600 Mhz the performance is worse than ddr 2 800 (4-4-4) due to the larger timing (7-7-7) used in DDR3 . SO DDR3 is only for high end gaming with 2 Ghz+ frequency or for large bandwidth application . were it really cost .
