The attempts to determine the max clock frequency of core 2 Extreme QX6850 (3.0 GHz) stepping G0 was already published in our previous news . Air cooling allowed to reach 4.0 GHz frequency , liquid nitrogen raised the overclock value to 4.8 GHz. 3DMark'06 test was possible only at 4.5 GHz frequency ;
The processor core 2 Extreme QX6850 (3.0 GHz) will appear in the middle of summer. According to the members of forum xtremeSystems.org, which possesses the selected copy Of core 2 Extreme QX6850 (3.0 GHz),it was possible to reach this result :
With dry ice and Vcore (processor voltage) 1.68 v , it was possible to overclock this processor to 4.84 GHz. The mainboard asus P5K deluxe/wiFi-AP ( on base of chipset intel p35 ) was used. Let us recall that dry ice in cooling efficiency is inferior to liquid nitrogen; therefore this processor copy has large chances to reach 5.0 GHz.
We also note that at 4.84 GHz frequency , this processor preserves the possibility to execute the test super PI 1M ( result was equal to 10,469 s ). Using the mainboard asus P5W DH deluxe (on base of chipset intel 975X ) the same processor passes 3DMark'06 test at 4.73 GHz frequency ( using the same dry ice cooling ). This core 2 Extreme QX6850 copy has good overclocking capability, but it cannot be asserted that other processor will overclock to a comparable level. Related Products :
