Tablets running the operating system Windows RT among consumers have not gained popularity, and now Microsoft needs to decide the fate of the unsuccessful project. The software giant has to choose from several ways: to act like HP, release webOS (an unlikely scenario), to freeze further development in this area , or to meet the users, changing the operating system for the better.
Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi noted that an attempt to promote Windows RT as solutions for work and play will not bring the desired results. Microsoft should change tactics and submit this OS under the guise of a companion for personal computers running Windows, not a replacement. Now Microsoft is trying to show that the device with Windows RT is suitable for consumption, and content creation.
The second important factor is the amount of royalties that Microsoft requires from its partners. For the operating system Android, for example, producers paid small amounts, and Apple is covering the costs for the iOS development by huge profits from sales of their own products, the cost of the tablet running Windows RT, there will always be higher in comparison with analogues with alternative operating systems because of the additional software costs. This means that Microsoft need to temper the appetite and reduce the cost of licenses for Windows RT (or contribute to lower costs of production partners in some other way).
According to IDC, the first quarter this year, was sold about 1.6 million tablets running Windows 8, and only 200,000 devices with Windows RT. These figures speak eloquently about consumer choice .
