Intel will present the desktop processor yorkfield family core 2 Extreme in the fourth quarter of the present year. The final characteristics of the new high end four core version are not determined, but it is not difficult to foresee them. Since the server version will operate at 3.16 GHz frequency , the desktop processor yorkfield XE will work as minimum at 3.33 GHz frequency .
First Yorkfield processor in extreme edition family will have 1333 MHz system bus, they will be equipped with 2 X 6 mb cache in the second level, and also support the technology VT, EIST, Intel 64 and EDB.
In the first quarter 2008 intel plan to release the following 45 nm processors models :
- Yorkfield with 1333 MHz by system bus and 2 X 6 mb cache - > two models;
- Wolfdale with 1333 MHz by system bus and 6 mb cache - > three models;
- Wolfdale with 1066 MHz by system bus and 3 mb cache - > one model.
We should note that wolfdale processors with 1066 MHz system bus and 3 mb cache in the second level will not support the technology VT and TXT (virtualization and data protection ), although remaining 45 nm processors (besides Yorkfield XE, which support only VT) will support these technologies . In the second quarter 2008 the assortment of wolfdale processors with 1066 MHz system bus will be extended, new models will fill the niche from $100 to $150.
