This week Intel released microcode update which make impossible to overclock the K series processors in motherboards based on chipset Intel H87, B85 and H81.
Lock of chipsets is implemented by updating the BIOS of the motherboard. Accordingly, if you need the opportunity to overclock the processor board in a cheap way, you have to not update the motherboard BIOS. Intel processors with unlocked multiplier is quite expensive, they are usually accompanied by a motherboard based on the chipset Intel Z87, without overclock restriction. If you decided to save on the motherboard, now you can go without updating the BIOS.
