According to analysts, in the second quarter of 2013, were sold 435 million mobile phones. Total sales growth of 3.6% compared to the second quarter of 2012. This number included 225 million smartphones (annual growth of 46.5%) and 210 million feature phones (annual decline of 21%). It is easy to calculate that the share of smartphones in the total volume of mobile handsets accounted for 51.8%. The greatest demand for smartphones was observed in three regions: Asia-Pacific region (up 74.1%), Latin America (55.7%) and Eastern Europe (31.6%).
First place in the smartphone market is for Samsung. Samsung smartphones are not as bad as Apple fans believe , South Korean device have the deserved attention. During the year, as follows from the above table, the share of Samsung in the smartphone market increased from 29.7% to 31.7%, which corresponds to the sale of 71.3 million units for the quarter. Apple has in the same period increased iPhone sales by 10% - to 31.8 million units, but its market share dropped from 18.8% to 14.2%.
If we evaluate the market of mobile devices, proliferation of mobile operating systems, the situation is as follows. Google Android operating system steadily gaining ground, increasing its share for the year from 64.2% to 79%. Apple firmly holds second place, and the third came with Microsoft and then Blackberry. Thus far all four bypasses Bada, Symbian and other operating systems.
