In March this year came the first specification of so-called memory cube - hybrid memory cube (HMC), which is developed by the consortium, which was organized in 2011, Micron and Samsung.
HMC memory is a stack of memory chips and memory controller, collected by TSVs-through connections in a compact cube. The capacity of the memory interface HMC can reach 320 GB / s.
Intel is not going to support HMC memory . However, neither ARM, nor AMD also showed interest in the subject. But the distinguished Altera company in official press release this developer of FPGA-matrices reported that together with Micron released demo board with a 2-GB "cube" Micron and four matrices of the last generation - Stratix V FPGA. Today it is one of the most efficient solutions on the market, and the minimum capacity of the HMC Micron is 160 GB / s.
In serial production Altera HMC will only appear in the next products generation . This 20-nm FPGA and SoC Arria 10, which TSMC company will produce next year, and 14-nm FPGA and SoC Stratix 10, whose production is entrusted by Intel. Test 14-nm Altera solutions will be before the end of this year, and experienced copies for distribution partners are expected in the first quarter of 2014. Related Products :
