Intel south bridges already for a long time support RAID disk , and the corresponding chipsets possibilities are improved with each new generation. Motherboard producers with south bridges purchase (  with the suffix R ) obtain the possibility to ensure RAID support on moderate price, in this case the printed-circuit board design is not complicated.

Asus holds in control a increase in the popularity of motherboard on base of chipset intel p35. The motherboard series asus P5B not only found the support to processors with 1333 MHz system bus, but also guarantee compatibility with 45 nm processors generation penryn. I.e., in their functional possibilities they are close to the motherboard series asus P5K, and the difference in price between those motherboards in these families is $20-40 . Asus reports that the motherboard on base of chipset intel p965 enjoy an increased demand.

Asus Continues to improve the motherboard on base of chipset intel p35. Recently this company announced the motherboard asus P5KR, which differ from Asus P5K in terms of south bridge ICH9R instead of usual ICH9. Accordingly, the regular four ports serial ATA on asus P5KR motherboard ensure the support to RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 10. The additional controller jMicron JMB363 ensures the support as before for the parallel ATA, one internal port serial ATA and one external port eSATA .

There is no large changes with the motherboard asus P5KR : appeared two additional cables serial ATA and the utility asus my-Logo 3. There is no information about the price of asus P5KR, but it is simple to determine independently the price increase. Additional payment for the south bridge by the producer is $3, plus several dollars for the good asus name :-)  and two serial ATA connector - The difference in price between Asus P5KR and Asus P5K will be $10 or just above.
