As you already know the modified NVIDIA video card drivers allow to include SLI regime support on those motherboards, which formally do not support such future. NVIDIA allow SLI support on its chipset only and does not hurry to permit other chipsets to work with SLI regime . However, hardware limitation does not exist - today many motherboards are equipped with two slots PCI express x16, which work in different configurations. Problem consists that NVIDIA fights with drivers modification , and to introduce changes in each new drivers version becomes more complex. Today appeared another evidence that SLI regime work in chipset AMD RD580. The author of this experiment used the modified drivers version 84.29 and a pair of video card geForce 7950 GT. Although this drivers version do not support video card 8xxx series, they are suitable for GeForce 7xxx.  The modified drivers allow to include SLI not only for AMD chipsets , but also for Intel .
