Intel did not give any clear information about frequencies and the model numbers of promising 45 nm CPU for desktop computers, which will appear  in the following year.
Today new information became accessible : not only about the frequency and cache size of desktop processors penryn generation , but also their model numbers. The first 45 nm processor for desktop computers will become the four core Core 2 Extreme QX9650, which works at 3.0 GHz frequency and have cache in the second level equal to 12 Mbytes (6 + 6 Mbytes). Typical CPU heat emission  will be limited to customary characteristic 130 W.
Entire remaining  processors wolfdale and Yorkfield, which includes seven models, will be announced in the beginning of January 2008. This Family will include three four core processors :
- Q9550 – 4 cores, frequency of 83 GHz, system bus 1333 MHz, L2 cache 12 Mbytes, TDP 95 W;
- Q9450 – 4 cores, frequency 2.66 GHz, system bus 1333 MHz, L2 cache 12 Mbytes, TDP 95 W;
- Q9300 – 4 cores, frequency 2.5 GHz, system bus 1333 MHz, L2 cache 6Â Mbytes, TDP 95 W.
And four dual cores processor :
- E8500 – 2 cores, frequency 3.16 GHz, system bus 1333 MHz, L2 cache 6Â Mbytes, TDP 65 W;
- E8400 – 2 cores, frequency 3.0 GHz, system bus 1333 MHz, L2 cache 6 Mbytes, TDP 65 W;
- E8300 – 2 cores, frequency 2.83 GHz, system bus 1333 MHz, L2 cache 6 Mbytes, TDP 65 W;
- E8200 – 2 cores, frequency 2.66 GHz, system bus 1333 MHz, L2 cache 6Â Mbytes, TDP 65 W.
Thus, the transfer of desktop processors  core 2 in  new 45 nm core will not make the essential jump in the clock frequencies. The frequency of four core processors in comparison with the existing models will not increase generally, but dual core CPU will be overclocked by 166 MHz. However, increase performance will be reached due to other factors: in particular, because of the increase in L2 volume cache, the support of new collection SSE4 and the acceleration of division operations due to the block radix-16.
