As is known, one of main update, which will appear in penryn processors , will become the support of new expansion SIMD instructions SSE4. As show the first tests, this commands allow to strongly accelerate the work of processor with media file, in particular the coding rate in DivX 6.6.1 grows by more than 60%.
Intel is assembled to continue its practice on the introduction of new SIMD instructions in its future processors. Thus, in Nehalem will be introduced the support of SSE4.2 : the extended version SSE4 with several additional commands, directed to effective line processing and text information.
The first processors, released on 32 nm technological process, known today under the code name westmere, will also obtain the sequential expansion collection commands . However, in this case the discussion will not deal about the improvement of SSE collection , but with the introduction of new instructions class , ATA (Application targeted accelerators). Within ATA , intel plans to inject the specialized instructions, intended for accelerating the concrete typical applications. Thus, Westmere will obtain the ATA- instructions, intended for the acceleration of coding operations on AES algorithm .
Intel up to 2010 plans to inject AMD SSE5 .
