Pioneer's in conjunction with Memory-Tech managed to improve the optical disks and get media capable of storing up to 256 GB of data, the volume of bilateral drive is 512 GB, respectively. This was possible due to a separate guide layer in the transverse structure of the disc, which in standard layout accompanies each data layer.
Developers were able to accommodate eight layers of data capacity of 32 GB on one side of the disc. Characteristically, the new optical drives are compatible with existing Blu-ray drives and can be played in them after firmware upgrade.
As prototypes of disks with a capacity of ten layers of 36 GB on one side - a carrier can accommodate up to 720 GB of data. Optimization of signal processing algorithms will increase the capacity of a single layer up to 42 GB, and their number is on the same side - up to 12 pieces. Disc can store 1 terabyte of data
