A couple of years ago, Intel introduced and began to promote the miniature computers NUC (Next Computing Unit ). Intel intends to make NUC twice smaller.
Modern case Intel NUC is equal to 0.46 liters. At IDF 2014 the company presented a plan under which the internal volume NUC reduced by almost half - to 0.26 liters. Intel has rightly observed that such discrete components like RAM and flash memory can be soldered to the motherboard, that will get rid of bulky connectors and halve the size of the board. The user can set the slot or module for wireless communication, or SBC SSD. That this restriction is already more serious than the inability to increase the RAM.
Recently introduced Intel Broadwell CPUs have TDP of 4.5 watts. These solutions allow to arrange passive cooling and transfer NUC on power from the USB. Next-generation systems will be powered by an adapter with a voltage of 19 V or 5 V. However, regular USB will not be able to give the necessary power for the new NUC power.
