The first signs that the default frequency of the first quad processor Phenom 9xxx will be lower than projected appeared this week. instead of the expected frequency 2.4 GHz the Phenom 9600 model frequency will be equal to 2.3 GHz .
AMD is going to revise the frequency of the first Phenom processor, which will be presented in 19-20 November. Senior processor Phenom 9700 instead of frequency 2.6 GHz will get 2.4 GHz frequency , and other two models Phenom will be lower in frequencies by 100 MHz instead of the expected 200 MHz. Here is a new list of the quad processor Phenom:
- Phenom 9700 -> four core, Socket AM2 +, HyperTransport 3.0 with 4 GHz frequency , 2.4 GHz,and 4 x 512 KB second cache level , 2 MB cache in the third-level , TDP value no more than 125 W;
- Phenom 9600 -> four core, Socket AM2 +, HyperTransport 3.0 with 3.6 GHz frequency , 2.3 GHz,and 4 x 512 KB second cache level , 2 MB cache in third-level , TDP value no more than 89 W ;
- Phenom 9500 -> four core, Socket AM2 +, HyperTransport 3.0 with 3.6 GHz frequency , 2.2 GHz, and 4 x 512 KB second cache level , 2 MB cache in third-level , TDP value no more than 89 W .
Note that the TDP values remained the same even with higher frequency. Obviously, making conclusions from the situation with deficit in Barcelona , the company decided to reduce Phenom processors frequency to provide higher supply levels.
