Gigabyte has decided to follow the example of ASUS and released an additional expansion card that adds support system interfaces Thunderbolt and DisplayPort. New feature called Gigabyte GC-Thunderbolt 2.
At the heart of Gigabyte GC-Thunderbolt 2 controller is Intel DSL5520, which allowed to bring two dual port DisplayPort version 1.2 (support for 4K UHD video at up to 60 Hz) and two dual Thunderbolt port with bidirectional bandwidth of up to 20 Gbit / s.
It must be emphasized that, despite the retail execution, Gigabyte GC-Thunderbolt 2 will be compatible only with a specific list of motherboards. At the moment, those eight and all of them are designed for use in the performance of processors LGA2011-3: GA-X99-Gaming G1 WIFI, GA-X99-Gaming 7 WIFI, GA-X99-Gaming 5, GA-X99-SOC Force, GA -X99-UD7 WIFI, GA-X99-UD5 WIFI, GA-X99-UD4 and GA-X99-UD3. The reason for this, according to Gigabyte company : you must update the motherboard BIOS microcode, without which the expansion card just will not work. Related Products :
